Spectrum of urological procedures in Yobe State University Teaching Hospital: an initial experience in a young west African hospital

Background: In auditing the surgical procedures of a hospital, services rendered to patients are reviewed using data generated from procedures, hence outcome is used as framework for improvement in future and capacity building. Objectives study were analyze indications Urological with performed at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH) share our experience, recommendation improvement.Methods: Retrospective hospital-based on who had urological done YSUTH between March 2018 April 2020. Urology that have not undergone any procedure excluded study. Data obtained records operation theatre, emergency unit medical record department hospital.Results: There 185 surgery, constituting 41.0% all general surgery patients. Male female ratio was 8.7:1 median age range 70-79 years. A sum 212 urology performed. Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) prostatectomies commonest diagnoses elective respectively, while urethral stricture bladder cancer 2nd 3rd diagnose respectively. Urethral catheterization urine retention BPH procedure. Cystoscopy day case among endo-urology procedures.Conclusions: BPH, followed by strictures cancers surgery. Urine requiring urthral catherization. Creation dedicated employment permanentt consultant urologists more health personnels relevant urology, will improve quality quantity rendered.
